SureSmile Aligners Glasgow

Straighter teeth can lift your confidence and make your daily brushing routine easier. They also help with cleaning and flossing, which supports long-term oral health and helps your smile stay in good shape for longer.

According to the NHS, crowded or misaligned teeth can make it harder to keep teeth and gums clean. Well-aligned teeth are generally easier to brush and floss effectively, which supports long-term gum and oral health. At Michael Kelly Dentistry in Glasgow, we offer SureSmile aligners to gently guide your teeth into a healthier and more even position.

What Are SureSmile Aligners?

SureSmile is an orthodontic treatment system that uses digitally planned, removable clear aligners to straighten teeth gradually. Each aligner is custom-made and moves your teeth a small amount at a time. The set of custom aligners moves your teeth a small, precise amount. They are guided by a 3D digital plan created from a scan of your teeth at your first appointment.

Since the aligners are clear and fit closely to your teeth, they are discreet; you can remove them for eating and brushing, and wear them for the rest of the day. SureSmile suits many adults and older teenagers who want straighter teeth without fixed metal braces.

What SureSmile Can Help With

SureSmile aligners are used to improve mild to moderate alignment concerns, including:

  • Crowded teeth (mild and moderate)
  • Small gaps between teeth
  • Teeth that lean or tilt out of alignment
  • Lower teeth that are slightly uneven
  • Mild bite issues

SureSmile is not suitable for all alignment issues. Active conditions, such as gum disease, would need to be addressed before beginning any orthodontic treatment. At Michael Kelly Dentistry, we use digital scans to assess your teeth and confirm whether SureSmile, Invisalign aligners or another cosmetic dentistry option would better suit your treatment.

Benefits of SureSmile Clear Aligners

SureSmile offers several advantages:

  • Clear aligners that are barely visible
  • Comfortable smooth trays
  • Removable design for eating, brushing and special occasions
  • No brackets, wires or metal components in the mouth
  • Precise planning with digital scanning

The goal is a straighter smile that fits easily into your daily life and helps regain your confidence.

The SureSmile Process

Here is how treatment works at Michael Kelly Dentistry.

1. Consultation

At your first appointment, one of our GDC-registered dentists will examine your teeth, take photos and discuss what SureSmile can realistically achieve. Digital scans help us understand your alignment and develop an accurate, customised treatment plan. No traditional moulds are required.

2. Digital Scan and Planning

A scan of your teeth is used to create a 3D model. This allows us to map out each stage of movement. SureSmile’s digital lab uses advanced technology to translate this model into a personalised aligner sequence, mapped against your individual treatment goals.

3. Custom Aligners

Once your custom aligners arrive, we fit the first set and walk you through how to wear and care for them. Each set is worn for a set period before switching to the next.

4. Regular Check Ins

We review your progress periodically and ensure your teeth are moving correctly. These routine check-in visits also give you the chance to ask questions and raise any concerns.

5. Completion and Retainers

At the end of treatment, you wear retainers to keep your teeth stable. Retainers are an important part of any orthodontic treatment, as they help prevent teeth from gradually shifting back towards their original position over time.

Digital Scans for Comfort and Accuracy

SureSmile at Michael Kelly Dentistry is fully digital. Scans provide precise measurements and remove the need for traditional moulds. The resulting 3D model feeds directly into the SureSmile digital lab, mapping the sequence of tooth movement consistently at each stage.

Digital planning supports predictable results and lets you see a visual representation of your expected tooth movement before treatment begins,  helping you understand your treatment plan and what to aim for.

How Long Does SureSmile Treatment Take?

Treatment duration varies from patient to patient, primarily depending on the complexity of your alignment and how consistently you wear your aligners throughout your smile journey

Clear aligner treatment with SureSmile typically ranges from six to eighteen months, though mild cases such as minor spacing or slightly crooked teeth can fall toward the shorter end of that range.

What Affects Your Treatment Timeline?

There are many factors that may influence how long your clear aligner treatment will take:

  • The complexity of your alignment (degree of crowding, spacing or bite concerns)
  • If you consistently wear your aligners each day
  • How the moving teeth respond to each stage of movement
  • Whether any additional clinical steps are needed during treatment

What to Expect at Each Stage

SureSmile’s website includes real treatment examples reviewed by doctors. Spacing cases completed in around 9.25 months, crossbite cases in 10.5 months, and combined overbite and crooked teeth cases in 11.5 months.

These are individual cases, and the results vary. We will give you a clear estimate at your consultation.

They are clear and fit closely to the teeth, making them very discreet.

You may feel slight pressure when you change to a new aligner. This is normal and settles as your teeth adjust. It’s important to wear your aligners throughout the day because they provide effective orthodontic movement.

No, you need to remove them. Removable aligners make it easy to pop them out for meals and for any drink except water.

You should wear them each day as instructed to ensure consistent movement. SureSmile recommends full-time wear for your clear aligners (20-22 hours each day). You should remove them during meals, when drinking anything other than water, and during your oral hygiene routine.

Yes. Retainers keep your teeth stable and may retain positioning.

This depends on your current alignment and dental health. If you had orthodontic treatment in the past and your teeth have shifted since, SureSmile may be a suitable option. Your dentist will have to assess this at a consultation. Inflamed gums or other active dental conditions must be managed before beginning any orthodontic treatment.
