What Do Dental Treatments in Glasgow Cover?

It is easy to put off a dental visit when nothing feels wrong. But according to the UK Government’s Adult Oral Health Survey 2023, only around half of adults in Great Britain attend regular check-ups, and that number has been quietly falling for over a decade. Routine dental care tends to work best when it is ongoing rather than occasional. Small changes are much easier to manage when they are caught early.

Dental care broadly falls into two categories:

  1. Preventive and maintenance treatments that support your oral health
  2. Cosmetic or restorative treatments that address the appearance and function of your teeth.

Many patients benefit from a combination of both.

At Michael Kelly Dentistry, our clinicians take the time to understand what matters most to you before recommending any course of treatment. Think of it less as a conveyor belt and more like a conversation about your teeth, your health and your oral goals.

General & Preventive Dentistry

Preventive care is the foundation of good oral health. The NHS Dental Treatments Overview highlights that general check-ups allow a dentist a chance to spot changes early, often before they cause discomfort or require more involved intervention.

  • Routine dental examinations and oral cancer screening

  • Digital X-rays are used when clinically necessary to identify issues that are not visible

  • Fillings and minor restorative work for decayed or damaged teeth

  • Hygienist appointments, including professional scale and polish to support long-term gum health

  • Emergency appointments for urgent pain or unexpected issues, subject to availability

Our dental hygienist team in Glasgow sees both new and existing patients and can be booked independently of a check-up.

Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic dentistry focuses on the aesthetics of your teeth. For many patients, treatments in this area go beyond appearance. Addressing issues such as misaligned or discoloured teeth can also affect how comfortable and confident you feel day to day.

  • Teeth whitening, performed in the practice or with a take-home kit prescribed by your dentist
  • Composite bonding, which uses tooth-coloured resin to reshape or improve the surface of a tooth. This preserves the natural tooth structure and is completed in a single visit without drilling or anaesthetic in most cases
  • Single-visit veneers, created using CEREC Omnicam technology for same-day results
  • Dental implants, placed using the Straumann implant system with digitally planned surgical guides
  • SureSmile and Invisalign clear aligners for teeth straightening

Restorative Dentistry

Restorative dentistry focuses on repairing or replacing teeth affected by decay, damage, or loss. This includes same-day crowns and veneers, dental implants, and fillings. Our restorative work is supported by in-practice CEREC technology, which allows certain same-day crowns and restorations to be designed and fitted in a single appointment.

Private Dental Care at Michael Kelly Dentistry

As a dental practice, we can offer our private patients longer appointments and a wider range of treatment options than are typically available through NHS dental provision. This allows our dentists to spend more time discussing your concerns, explaining what each procedure involves, and exploring what best suits your circumstances.

Private dental treatment at our Glasgow practice includes access to:

  • Denplan Care, which is a monthly payment plan that makes private dental care more affordable throughout the year

  • Finance options to help manage the cost of larger treatment plans

  • IV sedation for patients who experience dental anxiety, administered by Michael Kelly, our trained sedation dentist. Most patients who receive sedation report little or no memory of the procedure.

  • Referrals accepted for all aspects of dentistry, including implants and specialist restorative work.

All treatment suitability, including for sedation and implants, is assessed individually at consultation. Results will vary by patient.

Teeth Straightening Options for Adults and Children

Straightening teeth is a common reason patients visit our practice. We offer SureSmile clear aligners and Invisalign for adults, as well as Inman Aligner orthodontics for specific cases. Clear aligners are a removable alternative to fixed braces, and many patients find them more comfortable to manage day-to-day. Your dentist will assess your suitability at a consultation appointment before recommending a particular system.

We treat patients of all ages, from children attending their first dental visit to adults seeking cosmetic improvements. Our team is committed to making every visit as comfortable and straightforward as possible, particularly for younger or anxious patients.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you are considering dental treatment for the first time or have a specific procedure in mind, the following questions cover some of the things patients most commonly ask us.

NHS dental care is available through registered NHS practices and covers treatments considered clinically necessary. Dental care, such as that provided at Michael Kelly Dentistry, is funded directly by the patient and gives access to a wider range of materials, technologies, and treatment options.

Many patients also find that private practices offer greater flexibility around appointment timing and length. The British Dental Association (BDA) provides general information on the differences between NHS and private dental provision.

Dental implants are not suitable for every patient. Suitability depends on factors including the condition of your jawbone, your general dental health, and your dental history. During a consultation, your eligibility will be assessed individually. The International Team for Implantology (ITI) publishes clinical guidance on implant indications that our team uses to inform treatment planning. Results vary by patient.

We offer Denplan Care, a monthly payment plan that covers the cost of routine private dental care and hygienist appointments. For larger treatments, finance options may also be available. Your dentist will discuss the costs involved at your consultation, and treatment will only proceed with your informed consent.
